Enter the PearC. Nice name. Apples are to Macs as Pears are to PearCs or something like that. Apple can thank Psystar proving that people are interested in buying hackint0sh computers for this emerging Apple clone market. First the OpeniMac out of Argentina and now the PearC out of Germany. Apple still hasn't managed to take Psystar out legally and more companies doing the exact same thing are popping up everywhere.

Antitrust and license agreement laws aren't handled the same over in Europe as they are here in America so there is a chance that there is nothing that Apple will be able to do about these clone sales -- of course at some point they may try.

Starting at €500 the PearC is highly customizable with whatever options you want. Their top-of-the-line... [Read More]

There are rumors circulating that the new version of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard has been seeded to some of the top developers for beta testing. The latest build is said to be 10A261. The prior version of Snow Leopard delivered to developers was in December (build 10A222).

According to Macity, the latest version does not seem to contain anything different but does seem to be more stable. They report:

"The interface has not been revised and currently there are only small changes in System Preferences, have been resolved a few bugs in the Finder and little else. According to the sources of Macity the impression is that this release is more reliable than those previously distributed."

Apple has said that they intend to focus on quality and performance in Snow Leopard and there have been rumors for some time saying that Apple has been tweaking the OS to achieve this. Apple has also made it clear that the OS will give exceptional support for multi-core... [Read More]

Google Mobile Tracking Software Coming to iPhone
Feb 04, 2009 - 11:22 AM - by AppleChic

This morning Google announced that it has new software that will let mobile phone users share their whereabouts with family or friends, and that it will be on the iPhone soon.

It's being called Google Latitude and the technology is a new feature of Google Maps. The software is for mobile devices and it comes with an iGoogle gadget that can be installed on your computer.

Google says:

"Once you've opted in to Latitude, you can see the approximate location of your friends and loved ones who have decided to share their location with you, So now you can do things like see if your spouse is stuck in traffic on the way home from work, notice that a buddy is in town for the weekend, or take comfort in knowing that a loved one's flight landed safely, despite bad weather."

However, even Google acknowledges that this software could be used for stalker-ish purposes but says they have built in "fine-grained privacy... [Read More]

The aging iMac line looks to be on the way out with new revisions on their way in. If rumors are true Apple is reducing shipments of their current iMac line which is typically an indicator that Apple is making room in their store rooms for a new product revision and retiring the old. This is refreshing news for the iMac line which has been getting long in the tooth. The iMac should have been revised for Macworld since the model is already old. It wasn't and predictably Apple's sales of desktops dropped 25% for first quarter.

What can we expect? Analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros. claims to have the... [Read More]

Emirates Telecommunications - Etisalat, a United Arab Emirates, is getting the iPhone February 15th. What does that have to do with you (uh, if you are not in the UAE)? In the same interview with the Dow Jones when Mark Davis, Program Director for iPhone at Etisalat, announced they'd be getting the iPhone on February 15th, he apparently also said although they were getting this version late than many countries, the

Once again there is rampant grass-fire-like news across the web that Adobe and Apple are working together to bring flash in all of its glory to the iPhone. This is thanks to Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen saying "It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating," going further to say, “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.

I'm sort of bored of this Adobe bringing flash ... [Read More]

Podcaster RSS Player is the AppStore version of Podcaster which was originally not allowed in the AppStore presumably because of /who knows/, then distributed via ad-hoc, then distributed via our repo on Cydia, and now distributed via the AppStore under its new name RSS Player.

It's free today instead of the normal $4.99. Can't argue with free--especially if you are into Podcasts. Grab it.

QuickPwn 2.2.5 Released for Windows
Jan 30, 2009 - 2:46 PM - by cash7c3
Windows users can upgrade and jailbreak now too!

If you care about unlocking your iPhone 3g do not update to 2.2.1 unless you are updating custom firmware with the baseband update removed. QuickPwn can not create this custom firmware. Currently PwnageTool 2.2.5 (on OS X) is the only way to make this custom 2.2.1 .ispw with the baseband update removed. Upgrading to 2.2.1 via iTunes and then jailbreaking via QuickPwn will result in no unlock for you!

iPhone 2g owners you are safe to upgrade to 2.2.1, jailbreak with QuickPwn and unlock no problems.

iPod Touch 1g owners. You haven't had baseband worries for ages. Have fun

Windows QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 is where it's at.

[Release] Pwnage & Quickpwn 2.5.5 for OSX
Jan 30, 2009 - 11:20 AM - by Poseidon79
Click the image to open in full size.

The iPhone-Dev Team released new OSX versions of pwnage and quickpwn this morning for firmware 2.2.1 compatibility. For 3G users that want to upgrade to 2.2.1 and unlock you MUST use pwnage tool and disable the baseband update to conserve your 2.28.00 baseband. For first generation users there is no baseband update so just restore in iTunes to 2.2.1 and use the new version of Quickpwn to jailbreak.

A new version of Yellowsn0w has been uploaded for 2.2.1 compatibility as well so after you jailbreak add the source: apt9.yellowsn0w.com in Cydia and install version 0.9.7 and then reboot. This versions DOES NOT WORK WITH THE 2.2.1 BASEBAND so if you want to remain unlocked you MUST update with a custom firmware (via Pwnage Tool) that does not include the baseband update.

For 3G users that have upgraded your baseband to 2.30.00 there is no way to unlock or downgrade your baseband so you are stuck until the
